Your Winternship:

Tasmanians are brave people – unfazed by heights and rarely rattled by a little winter weather. While the rest of the country is curling up indoors, Launceston's Cataract Gorge is transforming into a real-life dreamscape. As the Scenic Seat-warmer Wintern, you’ll be responsible for making sure our historic chairlift is running smoothly – and if the views don’t take your breath away, the fresh air sure will.

Your first responsibility? Defrosting the chairlift. It’s a crucial job – chilly noses are one thing, but no one enjoys a frost-bitten bum in the middle of winter.

Once the day’s work is done, it’s all about preparing for an evening in the gentle glow of twilight. Testing fairy lights, setting up lanterns and getting everything ready for a much-anticipated Off Season spectacle when the sun slips behind the cliffs and the sky softens to dusk.

As evening deepens, you’ll hop on the chairlift and ride through the gorge, surrounded by the shimmer of the lights you lovingly set up and the fading light of day. Whether you're catching a glimpse of a peering possum or catch the first stars blinking into view, your heart will feel the warmth your fingers might not be able to.

By the end of your shift, you’ll realise winter in Tasmania isn’t about hiding away when the sun starts to set – it’s about riding right into a magical end to the day.
